Response to commenter, JeremyReader comment on item: American Border Secrets Submitted by Octavio Johanson (Italy), Apr 27, 2005 at 14:46 Dear Sir,You have got a point. However, European politics has taught us that those who want to deport all illegal immigrant don't get anywhere at all. A few people who have attempted your solution and failed: Jorg Haider (Austria), Jean-Marie Le Pen (France) and Philip Dewindler (Belgium). Deporting everybody is morally wrong and practically impossible. It is best to deport some of them or most of them, as opposed to cry "deport them all" and fail to deport illegal immigrants. From a moral point of view, not all immigrants deserve to be sent back and some do have genuine claims for asylum. However, most illegal immigrants are just taking advantage of the system and deserve to be deported. My models are Australia, Denmark, France and Italy. A lot has been said about the Australian and Dansh immigration system and how tough they are. However, the most remarkable progress in the fight against illegal immigration has come from once too soft France and Italy. France now carries out regular rounding up against illegal immigration. Italy has now reached a very effective and successful agreement with Colonel Gadafy of Lybia and hundreds of illigal immigrants are sent back from Italy to Lybia every day. In order to defeat illegal immigration, you have got to be hard, but fair. France and Italy have dramatically reduced the number of illegal immigrants. Haider, Le Pen, and De Windler have failed.
