Arafat was never a "Palestinian"Reader comment on item: Congress: Stop Subsidizing Biased Middle East Studies Submitted by Michael S. (United States), Nov 21, 2014 at 14:54 Hi, Jana. Thanks for giving it a read. I guess I could claim to be part of an "Oregonian People", seeing that Oregon became a state in 1859 (105 years before Yasser Arafat proclaimed a "Palestinian State"). I would be lying, of course: We didn't move here until a few years ago. All the best. BTW. Yasser Arafat was born in Egypt, of an Egyptian father. He never saw Israel until 1933, when it was a British Mandate. He might claim "British" heritage, or "Jewish Mandate" heritage; but not "Ancient Palesintian". He only lived four years in (mostly Jewish) Jerusalem as a child, then returned to Egypt. In short, he was a fraud. So is "Palestine".
