reclaiming the pastReader comment on item: Russia and the Middle East: A tour d'horizon Submitted by Mohammed Waza Khiddif Id'ullah (Australia), Dec 19, 2014 at 01:03 "...At the expense of the Russians, they have garnered into their fold former Soviet clients from Estonia to E. Germany to Albania. " In Estonia's case , Europeans are just taking back what 'belonged' to them in past ages. Estonia was an independent republic in the 1920's but prior to that was under the control of various European powers - specifically Denmark, Sweden and Germany. Swedish territory extended east from the Duchy of Finland - into Karelia and south to St. Petersburg and 'Ingria'. http://countries.wikia.com/wiki/File:Map_of_the_Swedish_Empire.png
