withering SecularismReader comment on item: Turkey's Unimportant Election Submitted by Dr.Awwad (India), Jun 5, 2015 at 12:38 I agree with Daniel in many accounts of his brilliant analysis .While I am in Istanbul I could sense that the vast majority of intellectuals and middle class are not happy with Erdogan policy who piled a huge wealth for himself and still people buying his lies .His party winning the election will consolidate his power and his policy specially in regard to foreign policy and the de facto presidential system under him .Poeple are upset with his curb of freedom of speech and slow economic growth . In the long run yes the secular fabrics of Turkey will disappear faster with more scarves and veils are visible in the street .It will be difficult for the public to thwarts his ambition and I will not be surprise if the army will not step in to save Turkey from Sultan /Caliph Erdogan Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
