Western Nations Do Not Understand IranReader comment on item: Obama's Iran Deal Has the Makings of a Catastrophe Submitted by Emmett (United States), Jul 15, 2015 at 10:22 The Iran Nuclear Agreement May I point out two points that I haven't heard included in the technical or political statements about this agreement. The Shiites (Persians) invented the concept of Taquiyya (disimulation) to hide their religious views from the majority Sunni. Today some, in the Muslim world, interpret it to mean that non Muslims need not be told the truth. Former President Ahmadinejad used this concept when he stated, at Columbia University, " We have no homosexuals in Iran." He knew full well that the govrnment had, a few days before, executed several men accused of being homosexuals. The Palestinian Authority uses taquiyya when they state that the Jews have no connection to Jerusalem. Yet, the Quran mentions Israel given to the Jews and the description of Solomon's temple in Sura 5:34 and 17: 34 respectively. The second point concerns Shiite theology, which I respect. Their twelfth Imam (Mahdi) will arrive (Kingdom of Heaven) after a giant conflagration. So, mutually assured destruction (MAD) is not a deterrent but an inducement. Daniel Pipes replies: As I understood Ahmedinejad, he was not saying there is no homosexual activity in Iran but that no Iranians identify themselves as homosexuals. The latter is not quite the absurd statement as that the former is. Reader comments (35) on this item
