Easy to be critical, difficult to propose an alternative.

The sanctions were not going to hold. Our partners in Europe were not going along with the United States if we wanted continue sanctions. China wants to trade with Iran. I think the war in Iraq was the worst decision in American History. In fact that that war and the upheaval that has followed is what has emboldened Iran. Those of us responding to Daniel Pipes remarks won't be alive if his predictions are correct. The consequences of these decisions will impact our grandchildren. Easy to critique much more challenging to suggest a better strategy.
