Disagree with the analysis; it overlooks too muchReader comment on item: An Israeli Gas Pipeline to Turkey? Bad Idea Submitted by Naftali Greenwood (Israel), Dec 21, 2015 at 12:24 Dr. Pipes overlooks a crucial aspect of the Leviathan gas reservoir: Its development costs, so it is said, are so, er, Leviathan as to require large-scale exports and an "anchor" importer to receive them. This may be a truism with little truth behind it, but if it's true, then Israel's options are basically to cut such a deal with Turkey or a less Leviathan regional player or to leave the gas under the seabed. And if Turkey reverts to the hostility that typified it for years until last week, a cynical outcome presents itself: Israel's infrastructure for Leviathan will be up and running and the Turkish connection will expire at Ankara's doing.
