AgreeReader comment on item: An Israeli Gas Pipeline to Turkey? Bad Idea Submitted by Philip (United Kingdom), Dec 29, 2015 at 07:30 In normal circs i would agree wholeheartedly with these sentiments. I don't DIS-agree with any of it. Just that I understand the geopolitics a bit differently. Since the US officially left Iraq (2013?) and the pretty well subsequent/consequent rise of ISIS, there have been 'rumours' of a Saudi driven 'coalition' between Saudi-US (long standing), Turkey and ...Israel. There are rumours that, in return for Israel helping the anti-Iran coaltion headed by Saudi, that a) Saudi has supplied some discreet funding to Israel and b) that Saudi, Israel and Turkey are secetly incahoots against Iran, Syria and Hezbollah. And Russia... If there is ANY reality t this 'rumour' then, despite Erdogan's rhetoric, Saudi/US efforts to patch up between Isrtael/Turkey may be resultimng in this pipeline deal. The situation out there between these parties is incredibly, mind bogglingly complex, and likely to become more so as Russia's considerable presence in Syria takes root. Given that the Russian sea route from the Bosphorus to Latakia would have to pass over an undersea pipeline route from Israel to Turkey (I mean they wouldn't lay it overland...) The potential for sabotage is enormous. The fact that the Russian mil/AF base 30 miles from Latakia houses an S400 radarsysten that covers southernTurkey and N.Israel is complimented by te fact that the Russians are operating right under te noses of te British/NATO listening post in Cyprus... Crazy, bloody crazy. And you think a pipeline is mad...?
