EmpiresReader comment on item: An Israeli Gas Pipeline to Turkey? Bad Idea Submitted by SAKOVKT (United States), Dec 23, 2015 at 12:19 Between 1568-1918 the Russian, Habsburg, Ottoman and Persian Empires went through quite some changes, internally and extenally, which were related in terms of military and economic resouces. The Holy Roman Eire became the Austro-Hungarian Empire, splittig off the German Empire in the process. The Ottoman fortune rose and fell, finally culminating in the end of the Caliphate. Russia, of course, consolidated under the Romanovs which fell to the Bolheviks and finally collapsed. I'd suspect that we are in another period of imperial transformations coming with the disintegration of the last of the Western Empires, the American Progressive. No wonder, there is no enthusiasm for war in America. Democrats refuse to acknowledge a need for a war while Republicans can only offer half-hearted "no boots" schemes which have already failed. The Progressive urge for a U.N., one world gov't is really just an empire and it has fallen apart. All of the U.N. Security Council nations are wraiths of their 1945 selves, except China which has grown enormously. Israel might better seek more regional accomodations rather than rely on American influence to secure themselves much as they did under British surzeinty. It appears that the Turkish, Persian and Russian empires are on the rise while the entire Western establishment falters on its own domestic problems.
