I don't think it's similar to Pollard

Pollard was an American citizen who spied for Israel. Had America and Britain used an Israeli citizen, one who works for Israeli intelligence to spy on Israel then it would indeed be similar. It would also be far more serious. Had Israel simply hacked into American transmissions, America would have been upset, maybe angry but I doubt they'd have been as disappointed as they were with the P,ollard affair.
