Well written, Guy.

During the war, my father-in-law was an American airman in England; and my mother-in-law was an English nurse. My father worked as an electrician at a factory that produced diesel engines for American merchant ships; and my mother worked for her step-father's bakery. I believe my sister was conceived on V-J day. We have distant cousins, who suffered under the Nazis. More than one died at Auschwitz; another died in the Stanislau massacre; but these were distant cousins. My family was fortunate. You certainly have much to thank God for, that your mother was spared death in that struggle. So many people suffered unspeakable things; they were not raptured out of them, as many Evangelicals expect to be.

After the war, Werner Von Braun became America's foremost rocket scientist; and Kurt Waldheim became the UN Secretary-General. Volkswagon and Krupp went on to thrive; and George Soros is a major influence in world affairs. Life goes on, doesn't it? and life isn't always fair.

I won't bother trying to judge, who was a real "Christian" and who wasn't, during and before WWII. Neither can I make such a judgment about them. The Jews have definite rules defining who is and isn't a Jew; but I'm sure Hitler and Himmler didn't consult any rabbis in their selection process; nor were they concerned about who was or wasn't a Christian. They were all humans, just like us -- no more and no less; and as you noted in sarcasm, humans can be less than wonderful. The Bible says,

Micah 7:
[5] Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom.
[6] For the son dishonoureth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter in law against her mother in law; a man's enemies are the men of his own house.

We live in perilous times.

Shalom shalom.
