What it is with the year 2024 and Palestinian Islamists? (Another aspect to the recent polls.)

Dr. Pipes,

This is the second or third time that I've heard Islamists say that Israel will be defeated by a specific year. A few days ago I watched an Israeli TV interview with an Islamist preacher near the Temple Mount. First, he bragged how he uses Facebook Live to disseminate his incitement. Then he mentioned his belief that Israel will be gone in 2024. Finally, he explained that Israel is a "punishment" for the Muslims and a reminder for the latter to mend their ways. Then I remembered that the late terrorist "guru" Sheikh Yassin (the one obliterated by an Israeli drone during the Oslo War) used to rant about Israel disappearing at a target date, but I'm not sure if the final destruction was supposed to be 2017 or 2024.

Why 2024 of all years? Did they change the target year since an old deadline passed? Is it possible these Islamist preachers will be exposed in 2024 as charlatans to their cultish followers? Or according to middle eastern logic, will they get away with missing the deadline and simply moving it forward?
