One of the best articles you've written in a while on the subjectReader comment on item: Why Palestinians Need an Israel Victory Submitted by There is NO Santa Claus (United States), Apr 21, 2018 at 15:18 Hello Dr. Pipes and thank you for writing that article. Given that the Palestinians perpetuate this war, Israel is within their right to fight and win. Indeed! The Israelis have a duty to win. Yet the dilemma remains as always: How does Israel defeat an enemy whose population they do not want to rule? In your article, there was some significant "body language" regarding that dilemma, but no real specific strategy since your thesis on this was stated as "One example:" Yet in that example you uttered three magic words that form the basis of a strategy for victory: "... extend its boundaries." When the United States won the Mexican-American war, we did not rule over the Mexican population; nor did we destroy Mexico. Rather, the United States extended its boundaries. Israel can do the same. The hardest part of implementing such a policy is reversing the momentum of Oslo. Oslo gave Yasir Arafat diplomatic recognition. With that recognition, Arafat (and his successors) sought the ability to wage violent war on Israel under the protection of the United Nations. He clearly achieved partial success even boldly demanding UN "peacekeepers" during the 2000 "Al Aksa intifada". Right now, the United States has a presence at the UN Security Council that can bluntly reverse the momentum of Oslo. (I'm talking about Nikki Haley and the Trump Administration.) The environment has never been more favorable for implementing your policy proposal. In addition to the above environment, there is also a rather simple fact facing some of Israel's enemies in Europe. Palestinian Arabs are not part of the sea of Muslim refugees streaming into Europe. For all the lies told about Israel's treatment of Palestinian Arabs ("downtrodden and disillusioned"...) nobody seems to be running for their lives from the "big, bad, Israelis". In this environment, the outrageous claims of anti-Semites have lost credibility. Many European governments are coming under increased public criticism from citizens who are demonstrating (in one way or another) their antipathy toward Arabs. The time may never be better for Israel to adopt your policy proposal. I'd also add that the opportunity could be relatively brief. Sincerely, There is NO Santa Claus
