All of us are eligible to be Caliphs --Shias and Sunnis can call a truce--Reader comment on item: Erdoğan's Turkish Delight Submitted by Prashant (United States), Jan 18, 2020 at 23:51 Dear Dr Pipes, Shias and Sunnis should not fight no more because I call the truce using mathematics. Some people say that 43 generations of humans have passed since Muhammad. Let us be conservative and round it down to 40. A typical Muslim family has 3 or more children. With this kind of branching factor there are billions and billions and millionse very true. So if we go by the biological link, all of us can qualify to be caliphs. Sunnis and Shias both can now agree to agree. No more kiling! I kid not. I created the biggest truce in history. But historically caliphs have to bear a lot of responsibility: 1) they have to propagate Islam (often cruelly) 2) have to be willing to kill and destroy 3) have to wage crusades 4) destroy temples etc. etc. etc. So many of us may recuse ourselves. But we do qualify.
