Medieval history is the witness to this ugly truth that the rise of Islamic power (irrespective of its schism) has proven to be detrimental to the world peace (and brought misery & persecution of NonMuslims)....Its in the interest of NonMuslims that this trend should be fought tooth and nail (let it be Ex NATO ally for that matter...)
