Submitted by Bernard (Australia), May 28, 2020 at 20:38 When David Ben-Gurion declared Israel's independence in 1948 at that moment, I doubt that you could say the United Nations was supporting this. The Soviet had expressed support, but that is it and the U.S. State Department, was pushing trusteeship, it was only a short time later that Israel found out that Truman had decided to recognize the state of Israel. As far as any practical help from these people, at that time, Israel was on its own. None of them did anything, and in fact, the U.S. was actively working to stop military equipment and personal to come to help Israel. It was a dangerous decision, but Ben-Gurion took it.
