"First, it was the niqab, today the food": France to ban the halal chicken slaughtering from July 2021Reader comment on item: Islamist Apparel Banned in France Submitted by A very concerned reader, Mar 21, 2021 at 19:05 Dear Dr Pipes, Not sure about where to post this, but I would like to have your review in regards to this. https://www.fr24news.com/a/2021/03/muslims-in-france-outraged-by-decision-to-ban-the-slaughter-of-halal-chickens.html It seems that France is not scared about the counterattack and it's decided to go ahead banning the slaughtering of the chickens in the halal way despite the Islamic communities' reaction that are preaching in all media that first it was the hijab and the niqab ("for no reason", they say) and today, their food. The reason behind this ban sits on minimising the animals' suffering. Nothing new. Muslims say that this goes against the free practice of their religion. Once again, where to draw the line? If in a country this slaughtering method is considered a cruel one and besides, they count on other existing methods that lessen the animal's suffering which are indeed regulated by their laws, who is right in here? France is not an Islamic Republic. Should they permit what they don't tolerate/is not legal for the sake of free practice of the religion? Should they allow then in the future the aloud displaying of the adhan five times a day for the sake of exercising this free practice? Just another one example. If you have already deal with this issue that today's is again on the eye of the media please refer me to the article. Looking forward for your opinion. Thanks in advance. Daniel Pipes replies: My view: Muslims are free to practice their religion unless their practices conflict with the law or their neighbors. Halal slaughter does neither.
