Sick of the hypocrisy

Dr Pipes:
I am an Italian/Jewish law student in the NYC area at a viciously liberal school. A few weeks ago a member of the Muslim Students Assoc. mentioned to me that I should join in a protest of Ariel Sharon's speech to the UN General Assembly on the grounds that he is a terrorist and mass murderer. When I retorted that in condemning Sharon, and ignoring the barbaric acts of terrorism which drive Israeli retaliation you are ignoring the true essence of the conflict, I was summarily called a nazi, Heinrich Himmler, fascist and racist all at the same time. There was no rebuttal to my claim of hypocrisy, and when I questioned the individual's own anti-semitic beliefs, he told me to go jump in an oven.

This past week, my hard work in putting together a branch of the Federalist Society paid off with our official recognition from the school; there was a spate of protests, even some threats, and claims that I would even defend the Patriot Act as constitutional (I would). Most striking though was the claim that the Society is a racist organization; asked if I could stomach the presence of an on-campus group dedicated to anti-semitism and destruction of Israel, I responded that yes, I already do tolerate their presence (The Muslim Students Assoc.). That shut my tormentors up very quickly. The very idea that Muslims in general might not be tolerant or accepting of Jews, and that it was blatantly demonstrated with the Hamas posters on their student bulletin board, was enough to provoke some introverted thought on the part of my classmates. A few of them have even asked me for some information on where to get another perspective on the whole mess; I referred them to your site.

I just wanted to thank you for your open, straightforward and brutally honest commentary which sustains me through the dark days I spend entrenched in the liberals' halls of hypocrisy.
