Recent Israeli demos against Netanyahu concerningReader comment on item: Bibi, Thank You for Your Service Submitted by Dave (United States), Jun 12, 2021 at 17:58 Netanyahu may have had his issues, but he was excellent for robust security, and he was helpful in improving Israel's economy by pushing to make it more market oriented and less socialistic. Given this exceptional legacy, it seems surprising that so many Israelis recently demonstrated against him, in very large numbers. While I'm sure that his legal troubles and the allegations of corruption were a major factor, it's hard to resist the notion that the Left has exploited these weaknesses in order to reintroduce traditional leftist policies of appeasement and state control of the economy, that those were the underlying goals of the demonstrators. If that is the case, I worry for Israel, as the record of past leftist regimes has been bloody and harmful to Israel's economy. While the new coalition cannot be described as thoroughly leftist, it nonetheless has some participants that certainly are, and that is troubling. I hope I'm just worrying needlessly and that things will work out.
