Social media will expose Islamic hypocrisy like never before.Reader comment on item: "We Hope You Will Wear Your Hijab to School" Submitted by Prashant (United States), Feb 10, 2022 at 02:46 Dear Dr Pipes, the protests in favor of and against hijabs in India that I mentioned about earlier are taking an interesting turn. Luckily, the 'war' is mostly on Social Media and some college campuses (I hope it stays non-violent.) What I found interesting is that at least so far, the government, police, law-makers, and professional politicians seem to be playing a reduced role. Some examples of what is happening are cited below. Some of these things may set future examples for other countries to follow. In the points below, I may criticize/praise both sides: 1. A Twitter hashtag HijabNahiKitabDo is gaining popularity. It literally means "don't give them hijabs. Give them books". 2. The opponents of Hijab are not appreciating that no matter how political wearing Hijab could be, it is people's right to wear whatever they want. However, there is an argument in favor of schools and colleges imposing a dress code of their choice on the students. 3. Hypocrisy of political protests is sometimes easy to expose. A female student "fighting for her right to wear Hijabs for modesty" was photographed in the local fast food joints dressed like a normal young woman. So, people are highlighting the point that Muslim women need Hijabs only in colleges to create controversy. 4. It is always possible to fight the right battle the wrong way. Some non-Muslim (hindu) students are challenging the authorities to allow saffron shawls in the classes if hijabs are allowed. 5. The absurd term 'Hinduphobia' is gaining some undeserved currency. 6. At least some Muslim women are speaking against Hijabs. 7. Some humorous cartoons highlighting the Islamic hypocrisy are being shared. In one a Muslim boy asks his mother why she wore the Hijab. The mother replies that she did that because it was her choice. The boy continues what would happen if she reversed the choice. The Mom admits that in that case she would be punished by Dad and ostracized by the community. Here is some of my commentary: 1. First of all, I will strongly encourage Muslim women to wrap as many Islamic products around them as possible. These products are inconvenient and do not serve their intended purpose. The more inconvenience is caused to the fundamentalists the better. 2. There is virtually no intellectual opposition to Islam (or Islamism) in the western world. The West has gone woke under the liberal threat. India is setting a better example. 3. If the trend continues, I expect a time to come soon -in India anyway- when Muslim women will challenge their parents, husbands and clergies and refuse to wear hijabs. That will be a good day. So far I am pleased with the healthy tone of India's opposition to the political movement supporting hijabs. I hope it remains non-violent and keeps exposing hypocrisy where ever it hides.
