No, the SOLUTION is the origin of Islam

I agree that the problem is not the origin of Islam, but the solution is. That's because Muslims need to understand that the man they seek to emulate in the canonical version of Islam did not exist. If they can ever be persuaded to emulate the real man, there would be less intolerance and violence. I think that matters, if only as a beacon of hope.
Looking at the Koranic Muhammed, I speculate that Muhammed was cast as a sort of Beduin version of Moses. Like Moses, he came from the desert (allegedly) to achieve important conquest (although the Jews were only traversing the desert on their way back home). He also punishes doubters and slackers (although it's God who does the punishing in the Torah). Since much of the Koran is based on Christian and Jewish material, much of it mistranslated from the Syriac and distorted, it's not surprising that a mutated version of Exodus would be found.
I think it's important to convey the research results and not throw up our hands and give in to harmful myths. The stakes are too high. Anyway, it's pretty intriguing.
