McCarthyism? I think not.

The term McCarthyism refers to a senator who sought to gain power by engaging in unsubstantiated accusations of subversion and outright disloyalty on the part of selected American citizens...None of these qualities apply to Mr. Pipes and the Middle East Forum.

Mr. Pipes' decision to expose any illustrious academician engaged in anti-American vitriol is a noble endeavor; at the very least, the web site can encourage more dialogue, rather than less. How can one have dialogue without knowing what the other side is saying?

Anyone engaged in exposing possible bigotry and racism is to be encouraged in his or her endeavors. Academicians sending requests to have their names added to the list are advised to put their propensities for the melodramatic element in check.
