No one else understands either!Reader comment on item: Thoughts on Hamas' Ascendance Submitted by Kenneth S. Besig (Israel), Jan 29, 2006 at 07:37 Dr. Pipes, you make the comment that you fail to understand how Israelis and the international community are able to describe Fatah as a moderate political party and Hamas as genocidal terrorist organization since they both promote the same anti Israel, anti Semitic, genocidal platform, and even compete with one another in carrying out terrorist attacks against innocent Jewish civilians. I understand your dilemma since I too, and many of my friends can't comprehend this distinction either. And yet the point you raise is very well taken, and could be said to be the main reason why the various peace processes and negotiations over the decades have all failed, and usually left the Middle East in worse shape than it was before these processes and negotiations took place. There are no moderate Palestinian political organizations, and very few moderate Islamic political organizations, if by moderate one means having the willingness to accept Israel's right to exist, or even to compromise on anything regarding Israel. All of the Palestinian political organizations call for the destruction of Israel, some sooner, some later. They all call for the expulsion or death of Israel's Jewish population, some sooner, some later. And while they all at least claim to represent the interests of the Palestinian people, all they really do is murder, torture, rob, and rape any Palestinian who does not enjoy the protections of some other Palestinian political/terror group.
