Whither Democracy? Palestinian Rights?Reader comment on item: Thoughts on Hamas' Ascendance Submitted by Proud "Cowboy" (United States), Feb 4, 2006 at 11:47 Certainly Palestinians have rights. They freely elected their new government. But, by choosing to vest power not in legitimate statesman, ready to employ diplomacy they have adopted a course. It is "politically immature" and childish to assume that actions don't have consequences. If Hamas will not acknowledge the rights of Jews to live, work etc and to freely govern themselves they are effectively saying, yes for me, not for thee. And, by the way, the US has NO obligation to send the product of the labor of our people (tax dollars) to support a corrupt and hateful regime. They claim that the military and political wings are separate, but this is akin to me saying my left hand is separated from my right, true but makes no difference they support each other. And what of the female Palestinian politician who has three sons as "martyrs" and is ready to sacrifice the rest? She is hate filled and definitely has abandoned reason. How can the American government financially support this? Answer, we can't and won't. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
