Hamas Victory by far the best outcome for IsraelReader comment on item: Thoughts on Hamas' Ascendance Submitted by Ted (Germany), Jan 29, 2006 at 08:59 Having participated in our War of Independence and having been predicting since 1964 that sooner or later we'll be talking to Arafat and we'll be accepting the idea of a Palestinian state and even abandoning our demand for an "undivided Jerusalem", and having all the while preached strict demographic separation (not by settling Jews but by resettling Arabs out of areas deemed strategically important), I consider myself to be something of an authority on the subject of Israel.I certainly consider myself not to be as stupid as generations of Israeli leaders and Jewish busybodies at large, to say nothing of US state department types. Needless to say I also expected Hamas to at least edge out Fatah in the Palestinian elections. At the end of the day Hamas trounced Fatah which is of course all to the good. I can only hope that now all those idiotic decision makers at last understand: important is not what the bulk of Arabs say but what they think and feel. And let's hope above hope that at last the right conclusions will be drawn.
