An environment in which they can thriveReader comment on item: Civil war likely in Iraq: Pipes Submitted by Bader S (Saudi Arabia), Mar 7, 2006 at 02:05 Mrgrinchman2001 stated that the US has "provided an environment, in wiping away the saddam regime, in which they can thrive."An examination of this environment will reveal that: 1) By disbanding the army, border security became non-existent allowing foreign fighters to enter the country. 2) By breaking up the police force, criminals and thugs have been able to kidnap and kill and commit other crimes without haveing to face a credible deterrent. 3) By excluding all former Ba'ath party members from government many Iraqis felt left out and out of jobs and this has encouraged insurgency. 4) By giving reconstruction contracts without fair bidding, corruption has run rampant and reconstruction of the infrastructure may have suffered as a consequence 5) By recruiting for the Iraqi police without careful screening of the candidates has allowed the infiltration of the security forces by militia members and insurgents. These few examples should demonstrate that the only thing that has thrived in this environment -- so generously provided by the US -- has been chaos.
