You are wrong againReader comment on item: Casey, Santorum and Jerusalem Submitted by true believer (India), Jun 16, 2006 at 07:01 Russia supports Iran for the same reason as China does, it wants to have a role in the middle east and not because of of the influence of any Orthodox Church. If that were really the case, Russians would not have egged on the Serbs to massacre moslems. All Orthodox churches from Antioch to Georgia to Ukraine and Russia ( including Armenia ) have a history of persecutions by moslems, mainly the Turks and pan-turkic communities, there is hardly any love lost between them. They do not see moslems as protectors of Christians. I can say this because I myself belong to one of the eastern Syrian Churches. Had that really been the case, Armenian holocaust would never have taken place. Why did many Arab christians migrate from Syria to US after the Arab-Israeli war ? Christians and moslems are not exactly kissing each other in Lebanon. Churches in the Middle east, whether in Egypt, Syria or Iraq are not taking sides with the Jews just because it could be very dangerous for them. As of today they are facing persecutions from islamofacists. And Moslems are least concerned about Christians, otherwise palestinian terrorists would not have used the Church of nativity as a toilet when they occupied it. Christians in the Armenian quarter of Jerusalem are living as peacefully as ever under Jewish rule. Iran supported Armenia because Turkey supported Azerbaijan. Iran and Turkey were traditional contestants for influence in that region. Turkey leaned towards the west, joined the NATO and shook hands with Israel while Iran went over to the Russian and Chinese camps after the revoluion. I heard some time in January this year that an Armenian Airlines plane landed in Tel Aviv for the first time in many years. Relations between Israel and Armenia have only improved since then. It seems Armenians have finally realised that it is better not to rely solely on Iran for future support. If Jerusalem continues Israeli rule, the wailing wall, Al Aksa, the Church of Nativity and every shrine that belongs to any community will be protected by law of the land. Leave it to moslems and they will knock down everything except the "dome of the rock" into a parking lot. When moslems take over governments, minorities lose most of their rights. I believe that all Christians understand this very well.
