Troubling SourcesReader comment on item: A New Round of Anger and Humiliation: Islam after 9/11 Submitted by Susan Ireland (United States), Jun 11, 2002 at 11:15 I am concerned about the extent to which you rely in this article on newspaper sources. We know for a fact that newspaper reports about Israel are inaccurate in the extreme. How, then, can such reports be trusted to be accurate about Islamists' reactions, opinions, and actions?I think it very dangerous to be overly optimistic about weakening Islamist resolve. While I agree 100% that the United States failed to react appropriately to pre-9/11 attacks and has been reacting more appropriately in declaring war and waging war since then, the fact remains that the Muslim populations in Europe and the U.S. are large and growing, and they are willing and eager to be violent against all non-Muslim people. We have to be very careful not to encourage any complacency on the part of the anti-terrorism forces. Rather, we must continue our efforts to educate the non-Jewish non-Muslims that they will be the next victims should be terrorist Muslims not be defeated. Personal accounts? In fact, the reporting on the facts of the situation concerning Israel are reliable; it is the interpretations, often in the middle of supposedly factual accounts, that are suspect.
