Islam not IslamistsReader comment on item: A New Round of Anger and Humiliation: Islam after 9/11 Submitted by John Reisner (Australia), Jun 11, 2002 at 20:38 The moral vacuum you expose regarding the efficacy of Western military success against Muslim terrorism subverts the euphemism of using "Islamists", "terrorists" and "fascists" for what the real problem is, Islam.Islamic religion is one that is and has been spread by the "persuasion" of force of arms. Whereas Christianity developed, in its early stages, by making appeals to human emotions, Islam makes no such appeal. Islamic justification of itself is flimsy and makes appeal to neither reason nor emotion, relying upon force. A metaphysical position which sees its justification through temporal success signalling God's approval is little more than a novel form of imperialism. History is replete with false messiahs and egotists who claim their success is because they have God's favour. Success comes with a closer adherence to realities as they are, not with trying to describe a triangle by using the attributes of a circle. The admission that the successful application of military force results in the relative pacification of large portions of Muslim populations demonstrates that this is both the currency of "understanding" and general operational methods. Islam is a religion which has been historically couched within military success and political dominance. It has no mechanisms with which to engage a lesser role. The killing of infidels brings with it no moral compunction other than whether it advances or hinders Muslim interests. This is the reality that you and most others skirt around.
