Dear Professor Pipes,

Your comments were right on. The administration at UCI is choosing to ignore the problem. It isn't the first time a speaker sponsored by our pro-Israel group has been disrupted. Unfortunately, it is doubtful you will be the last to receive this kind of negative reception.

The Muslim Student Union will be hosting another "Israel Awareness Week" this May. Featured speakers, in the past, have included Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Weiss of the Neturei Karta, Imam Amir Abdel Malik Ali and Norman Finkelstein.

But of course… you're the one who is accused of being a racist in our school paper.

Hopefully I'll be able to write a response to this article because the author not only misquotes you and attacks your research, but also attacks the right of Orange County Hillel (made up of the Anteaters for Israel and the Jewish Student Union) to invite you to our campus.

Last November I attended a meeting with other Jewish and pro-Israel leaders on campus. The vice-chancellor, Manuel Gomez, addressed our concerns but also suggested that "one person's hate speech is another person's education." It is this kind of mentality that allows hate-speech to continue on our campuses. Aside from the hate-mail, verbal harassment, occasional swastikas drawn on our apartment complexes and strange phone calls, there has not yet been a very drastic incident . Nonetheless, it is only a matter of time before someone here really takes what the MSU preaches to heart. I think that the administration will only take notice when something drastic happens to someone.

There is also a broader issue at stake. We literally have terrorist supporters on our campus. Maybe the FBI should start paying attention. Obviously there is a reason that UCI is under investigation by the Department of Education for anti-Semitism. You saw the reason last week.
