Reader comment on item: Speaker Shouted Down at U.C.-Irvine
in response to reader comment: Whose "freedom of speech"?

Submitted by donvan (United States), Feb 13, 2007 at 15:39

The sentiment expressed is easily understood. It is uncomfortable when we witness our freedoms being given away because of fear. The Jihadists have truncated our freedom of expression, speech, press, religion. The Islamics thru their propensity for violence and intmidation, have permeated our universities, intimidated our "Press" and deceived our political class. The Muhammedian cartoon was not published because of any "Sensitivity" to the feelings of Muslims, they were not published because of fear.

Dr Pipes, a thoughtful and respected intellectual and recognized expert in his field of study, was disrupted because the university is in a state of fear of the Islamics. Fear works, and it takes very little to instill fear into the minds of people. Our civilian elites, in academia, the press, politics, et al, assume that their physical safety will be guaranteed by the police,or security or military. When the Islamics demonstrate that the personal safety and the safety of their organizations cannot be secure, then our elites change their behavior and will , in the vast majority of instances, capitulate. They will not be openly critical, they will not publish, they will allow themselves to be used by the self proclaimed "Imams" because they are afraid.

The liberal attitude of capitulation is the expression of that fear. I have seen in my many years, now easily American citizens will give away those freedoms we have fought for and so many have died for. I love my country, and my fellow countrymen. I believe them to be, for the most part, honest, intelligent and patriotic. They are completely unprepared to face the terrible truth, Muhammed and his sword must be destroyed or he will destroy us.
