Surprise

I am quite surprised by this. 'Shouted down' is quite an exaggerated way to describe what took place. Why, I wonder, didn't these people stay and engage in debate? Why just stand and up and disrupt the talk? Perhaps in these matters, emotions rule the intellect. But I would have to say that the language of Daniel's speech was inflammatory. Are there really only two options? There is no compromise? What kind of talk is this? This is very bleak, very cynical. To use such language as 'crush' ("Palestinians must have their wills crushed")- this is outrageous and offensive.
If this is the best that intellectuals have to offer in 2007, I see no way out of this impasse.
