No war on the Golan BorderReader comment on item: Israel and Syria going to war? Submitted by yuval Brandstetter MD (Israel), Jun 11, 2007 at 06:09 The Golan border has been the peace border for Israel since november 1973. No other border has been so safe, so quiet, so free of blood-shed. Assad will not go to war on the Golan heights because Assad knows that in a straight-forward confrontation between an alerted Israeli military and the ASyrian army the latter will collapse as did the Guards of Saddam Hussein. The last time an Arab army has dealt the Jews a serious defeat was the invasion of Israel by the Arab Legion may 1948. Assad is exposed in Damascus as a fly on the wall, and his many enemies are lurking in the shadows ready to topple the Allawi tyrant at a moments notice. Assad will wait patiently for barac or netayahu to give him the Golan for free, which is an entirely possible scenario the way Israeli elite treats it's own legitimacy. He does not need to court disaster, simply wait for the Jews to fall into their own verbal trap. The fear of war, and the disgust with Nationality are so strong within the elite they will sacrifice anyone and anything, and shoot their own people, to buy the figment of peace from any tyrant.
