RESPONSE TO MR. PHIL GREEND ON SHARIA LAWReader comment on item: Michael Mukasey: No to Islamic Law in the United States Submitted by DANIEL REDMOND (United States), Oct 31, 2007 at 03:07 I am in agreement that the implementation of Islam's Sharia civil code into American society is unthinkable. It is an abomination that it exists anywhere in the world today. For the record, here are a few of the edicts placed by Sharia upon its subjugated masses: Stoning to death as a form of capital punishment. It is estimated that approximately 7,000 women have been stoned to death in Iran since the Iranian revolution of 1979, mostly for the rather petty crime of prostitution. Adultery is another "crime" punishable by stoning. The Iranian theocracy is quite helpful in carrying out this punishment, by the way, and actually delivers truckloads of stones of the "correct" size to the site of the execution to be utilized by the howling crowd of Muslims for deliverance of the punishment. In a particularly cruel and sadistic twist to this practice, the children of stoning victims are forced to witness the execution as well. Decapitation is also utilized as a means of execution. As recently as 1977 even a nineteen year old Saudi Royal princess was publicly decapitated by sword in a parking lot in Jeddah for the crime of adultery and that country employs executioners who travel the land with sword in hand for the express purpose of lopping off the heads of the condemned. A friend of mine reports that while on a business trip to Riyahd a few years ago 18 people were executed in the city by this method in a single week, most of them for the "crime" of being homosexuals. Chopping off of hands. This public mutilation by sword is routinely performed in all Muslim countries, as dictated by Sharia, for the crime of theft. Honor killings. These occur when a woman has "brought dishonor upon the family" as a result of having done something as innocuous as being seen kissing a boyfriend in public, or any other remotely sexual expression of public affection. Under Sharia the dishonor must be removed by male members of the family through the murder of the offending female, who is quite often a teenaged girl. This summary execution is also typically visited upon rape victims, for they too have managed---through their own victimization---to have brought dishonor upon their families. It is a very common practice. Under Sharia a woman's word in a court of law is worth half that of a man's, a clear case of gender discrimination and inequality of the sexes. In cases of "he said / she said," as in rape cases with no witnesses, "he" always wins. This has extremely negative consequences for the rape victim, for now, having admitted to having had sex out of wedlock, she will be subject to death by stoning. Within just the past few years a fire broke out in a girls' school in Saudi Arabia. As young girls in their early teens attempted to escape the burning building many of them were beaten back into the building with batons by the religious police---yes, they have police who strictly enforce Sharia---because they were not wearing their veils as required by Sharia. Twelve of the girls died in the flames. Clearly Islam's concept of justice, as found under Sharia, is incompatible with our own Constitutional freedoms and cannot ever be accepted as a valid legal system by any truly civilized society.
