Sovereignty!Reader comment on item: "America's Chickens are Coming Home to Roost" Submitted by Abu Nudnik (Canada), Mar 15, 2008 at 19:58 This profound perversion of history and morality betrays two things: one a moral and historical ignorance and secondly a character flaw. Firstly, the nation-state exists as a solution to a thorny international problem worked out in Westphalia. Nations, it was concluded, could have whatever religions, policies and laws within their boundaries so long as they did not interfere with another's state's sovereign right to enjoy the same. Terrorism is an assault on that idea. If citizens of a state cannot make their own laws and policies but must make them in consultation with those who would coerce them with violence or threat of violence then there is no longer sovereignty, no longer a nation-state. Without nation-states there is no possibility for freely negotiated international agreements. With what will we replace the nation-state? Terrorism, war-lordism, a decline to a dark ages like that which followed the fall of Rome. So much for the first issue. On with the second. There are men and women who, though they have not been blessed with either wealth or health nevertheless participate in the general joy of life, wish well those who are happy around them. There are those on the other hand who no matter what they have, choose to hate. It IS a choice. They are devils. They should be butchered where possible, ignored when that is impractical and should NEVER be allowed to participate in political discussion without vehement opposition.
