Moderate muslims= powerless muslimsReader comment on item: Erdoğan: "Turkey Is Not a Country Where Moderate Islam Prevails" Submitted by Ophelia (Switzerland), Apr 14, 2009 at 01:00 A moderate muslim is like the "Arlésienne" of Bizet: everybody talks, sings and dreams about her, but nobody has seen ,nor will ever see her. All right, if you think that opera references are always exaggerated, let us say that a moderate muslim, when he lives far away from his country, has not found a job yet, hides false immigration documents or has none. Always hungry, he can be become the temporary friend of the a pig eater. He has not yet had the opportunity to meet many other muslims. Maybe he even does not know that there are plenty of them in certain districts, where they alrready act as "caïds" and community organizers. At home, a moderate muslim, if he has a job, he is just living "au jour, le jour", feeding his family in the best way he can, and trying not to be too visible to the authorities of his obviously dictatorial government. Because, alas, there is very few or no democracy at all in the countries where Islam is dominant. Then , suddenly our "moderate muslim"starts gaining (for instance by reciting better than others the most hateful and anti-jew surats ), a little piece of power among his neighbours, his office colleagues, his café friends. One day, an imam or son of a religious leader , who was just passing by points a finger in his direction, before inviting (or commanding ) him to join a demonstration, let's say against Israël and other "infidels". Adieu,Farewell, Auf nimmer Wiedersehen, moderate muslim! From now on, you will possess more money, djellabas, turbans, and pocket-Korans to distribute in your district, where your reputation will never stop improving. Your wife or wifes, more respected, will organise parties where other women will bake cakes and fry "fiancés fingers" for future demonstrations against...Israël and the infedels! No matter where you live, goodwill people and natural born " dhimmis" will keep on searching for you, O moderate muslim! They will cry their eyes out for, but will never see you again. Just like the "Arlésienne!" Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
