Re: No Smoke And Mirrors- Just The FactsReader comment on item: The Far Right & Jihadis in Alliance Submitted by Aymenn Jawad (United Kingdom), May 12, 2009 at 03:44 Dear Orange Yonason: "Think what you will, but the facts don't support your fantasies". Mea culpa. I should have worded better the statement you quoted. Howbeit, it is a fact that the centre Left does not support eugenics. Below is a list of centre-left political parties: UK Labour Party. Parti Socialiste. Spanish Socialist Workers' Party. Democratic Party (USA). Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands. The Greens (Germany). Partito Democratico. Liberal Democrats (UK). Show me which one of these parties endorses eugenic programmes. You claim to be "dealing with the essence of the Left". Who are you to define what that essence is? Is there a Pope of Leftist doctrines who issues decrees on what is the correct Leftism? Yes, there is undoubtedly a set of political doctrines that define the Left to an extent (e.g. government intervention in the economy), but to say that eugenics is a mainstream leftist view is ridiculous. "Martin Luther King was a conservative Republican". Yes, he was registered as a Republican but that does not negate that he espoused social democracy (see the wikipedia entry with citations). Now, here I agree with you: the role of Republicans in the Civil Rights Movement has often been neglected. I can vouch for the fact that every Civil Rights Act passed in Congress more Republicans voted in favour than did Democrats, even when Republicans formed a minority. But that does not mean that no one on the Left supported civil rights for all racial groups (the NAACP et al. were founded by socialists). You then claimed that I was trying to "mislead" readers. You have misunderstood my main point. You provide a link to some "far Leftists" in their own words. I am perfectly aware of the radical and sinister agenda of the Far Left. That is beyond dispute. However, you then tar the ENTIRE political Left as being of the same cut of cloth as the far Left. Yours faithfully, Aymenn Jawad.
