Sorry I missed thisReader comment on item: The Far Right & Jihadis in Alliance Submitted by Gertrude (United States), Dec 11, 2012 at 18:02 I'm really sorry I missed this debate years ago. I've been hearing the error of "who's left and who's right" every once in awhile, and I find it very jarring to hear, "Hitler was a RIGHT WING fanatic..." coming out of the mouths of people who should know better. Let me educate them with the following comments. The political spectrum runs from COMPLETE CONTROL or TOTALITARIANISM on the extreme left, to COMPLETE FREEDOM on the extreme right. As such it is very easy to assign a correct position on the political spectrum to any person or movement. Simply ask the question, "How much control do they say they need? How much martial force do they need to implement their policies." Commies, Socialists, Nazis, and Mommies feel they need to virtually CONTROL EVERYTHING! Therefore they are on the left end of the spectrum. Libertarians, Nihilists, and true Republicans feel the need to CONTROL VERY LITTLE, or at least control a whole lot less than the misguided folks on the left. Yonason is correct and Jawad is wrong. ... Unfortunately, since this discussion is so old, no one will read my comment and perhaps have their misconception corrected. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please. Comments are screened and in some cases edited before posting. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate.
