Ahmadinejad's appeal to the "Muslim world"Reader comment on item: Assessing the Iranian Election Submitted by Jean Granville (France), Jun 14, 2009 at 17:57 Ahmadinejad's appeal to the "Muslim world" may be superior to that of Obama's, and maybe that is why the SL chose him. As for the West, Western countries have not responded so boldly to Ahmadijenad's provocations, so why not keep on. Besides, they may have concluded that a crazy face is as useful as a smiling one. Finally, I don't know anything about the domestic aspects of this choice, but isn't there the possibility that Ahmadinejad offers a better way for the regime to keep hold of the country? Because of his supports, because he may be closer to groups that are useful to the regime, like the GR? It seems to me that the Mullahs may be looking beyond PR as we usually see it in the West - which they probably do not understand very well anyway.
