Cunning vs. Wisdom

A former colleague of mine in the USA said of Netanyahu's speech at Bar-Ilan University:

"Netanyahu is too clever even for his own good. He hopes to get credit (with the U.S., etc.) for compromising on [the] "two state" [formula], while the blame for the (inevitable) rejection of his overture will be on the Arabs. Terrific—except (as you suggest), he has legitimated the crucial Arab claim and undermined the crucial Jewish one. I'd like to see it turn out as he apparently hopes—no Palestinian state and it's the Arabs' fault, but I'm afraid that the legitimization entailed will trump everything else."
