Our enemies usually don't discriminate between Jewish Zionists and Jewish Israel bashersReader comment on item: "Jewish" - Not the Same as "Pro-Israel" Submitted by Ken Besig (Israel), Aug 19, 2009 at 09:39 Generally speaking, there are really very few anti Zionist Jews, and the minority who are, generally wield very little personal power. The truly few Israel bashing and hating Jews are people like Joe Stork of Amnesty International or Jeff Halper of the Israel Committe Against House Demolitions, are usually hard line old style Bolsheviks, who largely hate the West and their own religious backgrounds, and have found their bete noir, and incomes, in promoting the hatred of Israel. But the organizations they head are largely non Jewish in membership and their positions as heads of these Jewish hating groups are largely as figureheads to stave off the very accurate accusations of anti Semitism masquerading as criticism of Israeli policies. The real problem is now that a rather small cadre of American Jews who are badly misinformed regarding Israel and the Middle East, and have become disillisioned and disenchanted with Israel, like Rahm Emmanuel, David Axelrod, and Samantha Powers, now hold positions of real power and influence in the Obama administration. Worse, lacking any real foreign policy experience and knowledge of the region, they are proposing diplomatic and security activities which have already been tried innumerable times, such as pressure on Israel to stop building in Jerusalem and the settlements, and fewer Israeli security operations among the Palestinians, and which have failed over and over again in the past. Certainly some of these "court Jews" have been raised on the international Leftist narrative of Israel being an obstacle to peace, an oppressive colonial entity, or other such nonsense, but some of them are simply confused by an Israeli Jewish public which has elected governments which have behaved inconsistently and even stupidly in the past. How can anyone trust or believe in a country which has done some of the things Israel has? And worse, the biggest and most dangerous diplomatic and security mistakes made here were made by individuals who were considered to be the best security minds Israel has ever produced! Yitzchak Rabin, the former Chief of Staff and Defence Minister signs the Oslo Accords with the arch anti Jewish and anti Israel terrorist Yassir Arafat, even though Rabin was warned by screaming tens of thousands of Israelis about the dangers, rather than admit he was wrong, Rabin allowed Arafat to conduct a terror war which claimed the lives of thousands of Israelis. Ehud Barak, another former Chief of Staff and Defence Minister, offered Arafat half of Jerusalem and all of Gaza, Judea, and the Shomron, and then failed to even respond to the massive terror war that Arafat replied with. And then there is Ariel Sharon, another former Defence Minister, whose unilateral withdrawal actually surrendered the Gaza Strip to the Palestinian terrorists, uprooted Jewish communities, and which brought about rocket and mortar attacks on the Israeli towns in range of the terrorists in Gaza. Thus I can understand why some American Jews are disillusioned and disheartened with Israel, but this does not and will not excuse Emmanuel, Axelrod, or Powers and others of their ilk within the Obama administration from the terrible and dangerous mistakes they are now making. Their unfair and misplaced pressure on Israel has practically assured that no peace negotiations will take place between Israel and the Palestinian Authority any time soon, that further violence from the Palestinians is almost inevitable, and that the other rogue regimes in the region, like Syria, Lebanon, Hamas, or the Hizballah may feel that they now have an American green light to launch military or terrorist attacks on Israel. But neither Obama nor Emmanuel, Axelrod, nor Powers will ever admit that they may be mistaken or misinformed about the Middle East or Israel, or just plain biased against Israel, which is probably the case with Samantha Powers. They may just have caused more bloodshed than they can ever imagine. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
