non-Christian Zionists

There are many atheists, secularists, humanists and other non-Christian Westerners who would strongly defend Israel though without using a religious frame of reference. Though raised in "the Christian West" I ceased identifying as a Christian many decades ago when in my teens. I now class myself a gnostic universalist but I think I would join with many an atheist in recognizing the Jewish community's connections with the land of Israel. I can recognize the part their faith plays in their identity and the part that Israel plays in securing that identity without myself holding to a theistic faith.
