Appeasement Politics'Reader comment on item: Islam and Western Militaries Submitted by Lou from Queens, NYC, USA (United States), Sep 25, 2009 at 11:55 I write this on the same day that we have discovered that the sneaky Persians have built another nuclear facility. Recently I heard the United Nations speech from President Obama, quoting the great President Ronald Reagan about nuclear disarmament. It was both very optimistic, and very naïve. The President made a somewhat an erroneous quote as Reagan wanted to reduce nuclear weaponry, but also believed strongly in, and supported the idea of a strong missile defense system, along with independent, verifiable weapons inspections. In addition I find it more then interesting that the whole topic of the Iranian nuclear program was not dealt with during this most recent United Nations meeting. Once again, another liberal democratic President has made the choice of being conciliatory towards our sworn enemies, instead of being confrontational. He like his predecessor, President Carter, will eventually regret his choice. And it appears that just like President George W Bush, he without reason, really believes that a new relationship with the world's oldest Communist regime (Russia) is still possible. I am reminded once again, that those who fail to learn the hard lessons of history, are doomed to repeat its mistakes, at great cost to those involved.
