The Jews who helped elect BHOReader comment on item: Sheikh Obama and His Two Wars Submitted by sara (Israel), Dec 11, 2009 at 05:26 Batya, I agree that BHO had always intended to be hard on Israel, the signs were clear all along with his Muslim associates and orientation, it was a given. It is clear that he will put her will and diplomatic expertise to the test during his term. The crucial ingredient that you are missing in your observation and puzzlement over the Jews who voted in Obama is that those Jews voted for him because of his leftist, civil rights equality, diversity etc. orations and posturing, not because they thought he would support Israel. Israel was never an issue for them, never. These Jews, who have relatives who perished or survived the holocaust, have already erased from their identities the need for Israel's existence. They no longer feel threatened and therefore have been able to take the liberal high ground in the past 40 years, proudly spearheading the civil rights movement, marching along with minorities in the streets and in their synagogues. They deny that antisemitism exists because they imbue the liberal mantra that everyone is equal and peaceful utopia is only a dream away. It should be clear by now that those Jews have little to no affiliation with Israel. They identify with the 'plight' of the Palestinians from a place of pursuit of justice, civil rights etc., not with Israel who they perceive as an aggressor who they have no connection to. This differentiation is difficult for those of us who support Israel to comprehend and it is the reason why I can no longer identify with American Jews as a group. The next time someone asks you why so many Jews voted for Obama, you will have the answer ; because his obvious lack of support for Israel was of no significance to them.
