The Sky is Falling!

Call me Chicken Little! I only see dark horizons here. Does anyone really think that Obama, flush with his recent health-care victory, is going to re-think any of his positions? Given his pesonality profile he will now be emboldened to demand even more from Israel than he has already. I don't see any set of circumstances, in an Obama Presidency, whereby he ends up with enought gumption to strike Iran. I imagine that the mind-set of the Administration is to allow for Iran to go nuclear and then fall back to a "contaiment" policy. I wouldn't even be surprised if he threatens the Israel government with sabatoging, with military force if necessary, any attempted strike by Israel against Iran.

The picture you posted of Netanyahu and Obama speaks volumes. This President is hell-bent to put Israel in its place. Sooner or later Obama would have made his anit-Israel colors show through. The announcement during the biden visit insured that such would be sooner. You can't have sat through Reverend Wright's harangues against Israel for several years without aquiring that poison by osmosis. There will be some really toughh sledding in the weeks and months ahead for Israel. The only chance for Israel is to stand fast on its principles, come what may.

All that having been said, I still think the manner of the annoucement of Israel's decision to build more in Jerusalem was a horrible mistake. If Netanyahu knew about the announcement in advance, he made a horrible mistake of timing. If he didn't know he looks like a clown who is sabotaged by the right wing of his coalition. Either way it was bad for Netanyahu and very bad for Israel. Obama knows this and he will attemt to maximize this horredous mistkae in timing to the severe detriment of the interests of Israel.///Again, the only rational alternative for Israel at this point is to stand fast in its claim of its right to build in any part of Jerusalem and to publically emphasize, loudly and unambiguously, that Jerusalem, whole and undivided, is part of the sovereign state of Israel. Maybe some Palestinian govemental outpost can be established there if the Palestinians ever get serious about making peace. But such an outpost should not come into being unless and untill Israel's sovereignty over the whole of an undivided Jerusalem is acknowledged by all parties to the nogitiations.
