To Mr. Facts and Figures (aka Debanjan Banerjee)Reader comment on item: When Obama Meets Netanyahu Submitted by Jeff (United States), Apr 2, 2010 at 13:31 Actually, Jaladhi got one figure wrong. The USA has given more than 50 billion dollars in aid to Egypt in the last 30 years or so, much of it for economic development. Jaladhi got the other half right, however, in exchange, we receive the virulent hatred of most Egyptians, who danced in the streets on September 11 (but not from Egyptian Copts, who don't seem to share in the hatred, being on the receiving end themselves of the same Muslim inspired hate). The USA did not put President Mubarak in power, nor does the US fashion his foreign or domestic policies. Of course, if we try to do business with an Islamic government, we're propping up dictators; if we remove a mass-murdering Islamic dictator, then we're crusader infidels. Which do you prefer? "You say that you are a democracy…" We say that because we are one. What do you claim India's form of government to be? Does India do business with China? Yes? So, you're propping up dictators too, welcome to the club. The economic sanctions against Iraq during the Clinton administration were due to Saddam's refusal to carry out provisions of the treaty he signed to end a that war he had started. Those sanctions specifically exempted food, medicine and medical treatment, all of which were of little concern to Saddam Hussein, who chose instead to spend oil money on a dozen or so new palaces for himself. Saddam skillfully turned his criminal treachery into a propaganda victory against the sanctions, at least, he was skillful enough to convince the illiterate middle east, and apparently you, too. So Zia Ul Haq fought on behalf of the US in Afghanistan? Really? He drove the Soviets out of Afghanistan? Really? Please tell me, how many Pakistani divisions were sent to Afghanistan in 1980? I think we're back to that number zero again, Mr. Banerjee. The simple fact is, the US helped the Afghans, with cooperation from Pakistan, to free Afghanistan from Soviet domination. Which of course, was a very bad thing to do, because the US did it, so it has to be bad. Right, Mr. Banerjee, the end of the cold war had nothing to do with a bankrupt Soviet empire, where workers wages were partially paid in vodka, and whose motto was "they pretend to pay us, so we pretend to work;" a free and prosperous western Europe alongside a destitute and terror-ruled eastern Europe; people like Lech Walesa and Vaclav Havel never really lived; those stories about the Gdansk shipyards are just CIA fairy tales. Right, eastern Europe owes its freedom entirely to a Pakistani muslim, just as you say. Have you noticed how unappreciative those eastern Europeans are? What a bunch of jerks. As far as Israel goes, if the Arabs lay down their arms, there will be peace. If the Jews lay down their arms, there will be a massacre.
