Obama Submitted by Aymenn Jawad Al-Tamimi (United Kingdom), Mar 29, 2011 at 15:09 Dr. Pipes:- From the beginning of his campaign to be president, Obama made it clear that his criticism of the war in Afghanistan was that there weren't enough troops on the ground: the Afghan surge was in fact a campaign promise. It was not an issue of whether the U.S. should have gone in there at all, unlike his criticism of the Iraq War, which he had always opposed. So, in terms of Afghanistan, there was never any rejection of George Bush's Mid-East policies, but only a belief that the Afghan war effort did not resemble Bush's Iraq policies enough.
