Let's help the Libyans, but...Reader comment on item: George W. Obama Submitted by Frank Luke (United States), Mar 29, 2011 at 16:52 Obama's speech was fairly good. Sitting in the opposition and casting stones at George Bush was the easy part. Obama is aware that there is a difference between political-speak and real-speak. His last address on Libya was real-speak...which is the same thing as Bush-speak. There's one thing that bothers me though...the Arab street and all those who oppose "US hegemony" should be addressed first, before we spend any money and efforts at liberating the Libyans from Gaddafi. We should have used this opportunity to tell the Arab League / Muslim League....."go in and help your brothers who are fighting for freedom from a tyrant, if you can. If you cannot help your brothers, then we will step in and help them". We need to bear in mind that the men who want Gaddafi out can turn out to be as virulently anti-American as Gaddafi/Osama bin Laden, in the long run. This may not be a case of "one set of good guys being tormented by a bunch of bad guys". This may very well be a case of "one set of bad guys being tormented by another bunch of bad guys". Just because a group of people are being victimised does not mean they are good. Remember, Afghanistan was once attacked by USSR and was in need of our help.
