Reponse to Turkey at the Crossroads- AgainReader comment on item: Ambitious Turkey Submitted by Sephardi (Canada), Apr 15, 2011 at 18:45 First of all, there is no permanent friendship or hostility, every single day circumstances are changing, definitely Turkey will evaluate its own friendships and hostility. In ottoman time government was very different, ottoman wanted to be on british side, but british didn't want it, british knew Germans were going to lose the war. They left the Ottoman with a side going to lose, more importantly, it was beneficial to put the ottoman the side going to lose, look at the places ottoman lost irak, syria, israel palestine, suudi arabia, egypt, libya, tunus; oil lands. Try to go that time and think like British is it how good is for you to be with sick man of europe ottoman or leave the ottoman with germans and capture oil lands. In order to analyse ww2, you have to know how Turkey felt to be in loser side. example ww1, Turkey tried to be neutral, didn't want to risk anything My response, for comment on nato, it was beneficial for two sides. My response, comment on Ataturk and erdogan , Ataturk did his best in his time Turks wanted him, Today Turks want Erdogan, prove is, Erdogan is elected pm. My response, comment on islam, Government and religion is separated, it is secular country however, if people brings religions leaders to Government it is absolutely fine up to them they are the one who elects, Gov must be Secular and it is in constitution.Nevertheless if they think secularism is not valid value for them ,it's their country they are going to re-evaluate constitutional values, laws etc, it is totally up to them; It is their country they have right to decide what is best for their country. I disagree comments on israel do you know sells gun to PKK and provide fund to them? And have you ever saw an helicopter from US military base flew and dropped things (guess what might be) to kandil mountain PKK camps. Of course, Turkey can't be friend if a county does these things. There are many things being done to against Turkey that will take tons of hours to write. Turkey is not anymore sick man of Europe, It's a potential super world power, in history Turks had many empires and ruled world, they know how to deal with crossroads. One important thing, Turks love to be superpower, Turks know how it feels. Second, independency plays very important role Turkic cultures, Turks believes they are the peacekeepers of the world.
