Stepping Stones to a Greater ThreatReader comment on item: U.S.-Pakistan Relations in Decline Submitted by M. Tovey (United States), May 23, 2011 at 19:17 While there may be the perception that the Pakistani situation is not garnering its appropriate share of the circumstances we see brewing in the Middle East, the Hindu/Pashtun antipathies have an apparent background of issues that will only present themselves in greater world influences after the meltdown in the Middle East presents itself. Whether the Pakistani influences of the September 11, 2001 World trade Center attack were indeed a part of the devastating reality that Islam hates America, it will be the issues of the possession of the 'Promised Land' that will become the future world focus. The Pashtun hordes, which we were told are waiting in the wings, will be drawn to the Middle East like moths to the flame. It is inevitable; they have said so. Within the life time of this reader, in conversation with many who spoke Punjab, Dari and Pashtun as first languages and English as a second, and watching the indigenous (dismissing disaffected Saudi civil engineers) members of the mujahedeen in historical battle with the earlier hordes, the Brits, the Soviets etc., there can be no doubt that tangling with the Pashtun Hordes will be no simple matter. Yet, as they assent to being involved in the Middle East, they will find, just as many did in historical times, what was thought to be settled one way in history did not work out too well in the final analysis. India may have a problem with the Pakistani's and their border issues, and there may be flare-ups of those antipathies, but understand that those who speak Farsi, Chaldee and other Mediterranean tongues have more to be concerned about than their eastern neighbors.
